THE V8 COMMUNITIES
V8 members are united in belief that strategic advantages including access to major transportation corridors, as well as significant business, and technology assets make Van Dyke Avenue unique within the metropolitan area.
The Van Dyke-8 Mile Gateway Collaborative (V8) is an eight square mile area encompassing the cities of Detroit, Warren and Center Line. The V8 area has strong housing stock, including affordable single family homes, rental properties, and senior living community options. In addition to the variety in housing options, V8 is fortunate to include two major roads- 8 Mile Boulevard and Van Dyke Avenue. Both play a vital role in transportation, not just to the V8 area, but to Metro Detroit as a whole. Eight Mile Boulevard (M-102) spans five counties and 13 communities in the region. Van Dyke (M-53) runs from Detroit’s central city to Lake Huron.
The 8 Mile/Van Dyke intersection is centered at the heart of the targeted area and has over 20,000 travelers a day. This provides a strong customer base for the Van Dyke commercial district that includes quality grocery stores, restaurants, retail and services. There is ample opportunity for this district to grow and flourish. New businesses see the area as a prime location to access both vehicular travelers and pedestrians living in the nearby neighborhoods. V8 is fortunate to have a strong health care system in its target area. St. John Health-Conner Creek Village Campus. St. John, in partnership with Advantage Health, provides a federally funded health care clinic and has expanded local access to primary health care. The GM Technical Center, United States Army- Life Cycle Management Command Headquarters and the Michigan Technical Education Center afford training and career opportunities for V8 residents, and draw others outside the area to this region. The new Milbank Greenway has added miles of trails for residents to enjoy, and will eventually connect the cities of Detroit, Warren and Center Line, and continue up through Macomb County. Other important resources include the new Warren City Hall and Town Center, Warren Community Center and Lipke Recreation Center (Detroit).
