ABOUT THE V8

 

The Van Dyke-8 Mile Gateway Collaborative (V8) was formed in direct response to Detroit LISC’s Metro Detroit Regional Investment Initiative (MDRII) in November 2004. MDRII strives to address the consequences of urban sprawl that affect the City of Detroit and its inner-ring suburban neighbors. Working together, the City of Detroit and its adjacent suburbs are focusing on regional strategies, involving physical revitalization, as well as social equity activities.


V8 is comprised of 13 active partners representing non-profit organizations, associations, municipalities, development authorities and businesses. These partners are working to revitalize a community shared by residents and business owners in Center Line, Warren and Detroit.


From the onset, V8 was created to pool existing resources and activities to benefit the Van Dyke corridor. V8 encompasses eight (8) square miles, reaching from McNichols to 10 Mile Road and from Hoover to Mound Road.  The collaboration is bringing new activities to the community, addressing the perceived and actual barriers that impede regional cooperation. It is V8’s hope that through these newly found partnerships, they can strengthen the Van Dyke corridor and make it a place where people want to live, work, shop and play.
